• Image of CD release: The Orpheus Piano Trio Live

After performances in Albury, Wodonga, Wagga Wagga & Bright, the final concert in this series was at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Wangaratta. This is the live recording of that performance from the 24th November 2013.
The show commenced with Beethoven’s famous “Ghost” Trio (Op.70 No.1 in D major). This is one of his best known works in the genre. The All-Music Guide states that "because of it’s strangely scored and undeniably eerie-sounding slow movement, it was dubbed the "Ghost" Trio. The name has stuck with the work ever since."
Debussy’s Piano Trio in G major L. 3, was written by in 1879, at the tender age of 16. This is a rarely performed work, featuring a heavily Romantic influence, beautiful melodic passages & light clear textures.
Brahms’ popular Piano Trio in B major (Op.8) is also an early work for the composer; however a revised edition was completed in 1889 which is the most commonly used edition. The work features long, sweeping string melodies, thick textures, high drama and sentimental, reflective moments.
The three works, composed throughout the nineteenth century, complement each other perfectly in this program. We hope you enjoy listening to our live interpretation of these masterpieces as much as we did learning and performing them!
